Bozeman/Big Sky Avalanche Rescue Courses

Avalanche rescue is the most critical skill we hope you never need to use. But in an avalanche burial scenario, survival depends on having partners with the knowledge, skill, and confidence to execute a fast and effective rescue. BSBG Avalanche Rescue is an intensive, one day course that takes place 100% in the field. This course is a pre-requisite for any Recreational Level 2 or Professional Level 1 course, and recommended for anyone who travels in the backcountry. All BSBG Courses are accredited by the American Avalanche Association.

Courses include: Guiding and instruction; tons of hands-on practice with single-burial companion rescue, team rescue, multiple-burial rescue, and post-rescue care; and a certificate of completion.

  • Survival Strategies: priorities & actions to take if involved in an avalanche (as a victim or responder)

  • Transciever techniques: Single burial and multiple burial strategies

  • Strategic shoveling alone and in a team

  • Locating burials without beacons

  • Likely medical issues to anticipate once buried victims are excavated

  • How to request EMS resources and what to expect with larger professional responses (SAR)

  • Use and care of airbags & other tools
